Booking removals
There are several ways to move house: You can hire a van and move yourself, hire a man with a van or book a professional removal company. If you have a lot to move, or valuable items you should book a removal company.
Removal firms offer a more complete moving offering to a home mover. They will:
- Pack your goods for you
- Sort out the parking authorisation
- Disassemble all the beds or furniture you need to in order to get you into the new address
- They will (if requested) unpack all your goods and in some instances will actually re hang all your goods for you.
How do they calculate the price?
Removal companies base their charges on a number of factors:
- How big a truck they need for the job?
- How many lifters they will need for the job?
- Distance you are moving?
- How far away from the house can they park their truck?
- How difficult is to access either property – e.g. multiple flights of stairs.
What is ‘extended warrantee cover’
Some removal companies offer “extended warrantee cover” which is simply another way of saying if they break something they pay for it. However it’s not legally binding, and in the event of damage you will need to contest the issue with the company. If a removal company offers insurance for the job – ask to see their FSA number – you can check the legitimacy of their membership at www.fsa.gov.uk if their name is not on the list don’t take the cover.
