A simple guide to the legal process of moving.

Want to know more about the legal processes when buying and selling properties? Look no further. We’ve put together a really simple guide to the legal process to help you through every step of your move.

There are 3 key legal areas of the buying and selling process:

  • A HIP (home information pack) - This is only needed when selling a property. It is prepared by a property Solicitors or specialist HIP company.
  • Conveyancing (property solicitor) - This is the legal work done by a property solicitor covering the contracts of the sale and or purchase of property.
  • Home Survey - A survey of the property you intend to buy, completed by a chartered surveyor. There are various types of survey but all are designed as an independent overview of the condition of the property.

Where do you start?

How to save money on your HIP and legal fees

HIPs are usually prepared by a property solicitor. It’s worth getting HIP and legal quotes at the same time from the same company – many offer discounts on the HIP if they’re also doing the sale and purchase legal work. Find out more about HIPs >
