Where do you recommend to get moving boxes? In the past i have go them from the local stores who used to seem to keep them for people. I'm moving next month and trying to organise my boxes and the local shops just don't keep their old ones for people to reuse these days! They all get recycled immediately!

I don't want to spend money on them and was hoping to get them for free! any ideas?

Hi Maria,

Other than your local shops and supermarkets, there arent that many places that give away free boxes!!
You could try some technical stores like Curry or PC World and they will have shipping boxes they need to get rid of. You could try asking neighbours (particulary if you have new neighbours as they are likely to be wanting to get rid of *their* moving boxes ;) )
Good luck!

As mentioned above, the best place to get moving boxes will be in retail outlets they may have more than enough boxes to give away.

I have worked in retail before...and with the amount of delivery they get every week (sometimes everyday), they may have a few spare to give away.

Or, if you do not want to pay or ask for any empty boxes...your best bet will be to try the company skips...I'm sure there will be plenty of boxes to choose from there!

Another tip is to save all your boxes from items you have bought in the past such as kitchen appliances and other big household items you have purchased.

Doing this will save you time and will also save you from going to different department stores asking for their storage boxes. When you have stored up all your boxes for your next move, you will be glad that you decided not to throw them away!

I moved recently and can safely say that there is nothing more frustrating that getting smelly, old shaped boxes from supermarkets. I have moved 4 times in the last 5 years and orginally tried to save money by running around shops and collecting what I could. This time I was so sick of all my friends moaning on moving day complaining about rubbish boxes I decided to buy online. A friend recommended a site called www.helpineedboxes.co.uk. I did look around but the boxes looked the most sturdy and cheapest based on size. They arrived next day as promised, all correct and very heavy duty. I hope to move again in the next year and they seem to be strong enough to use again and again. One bit of advice, I write on a A4 piece of paper and tape this onto the box so that I don't get confused with contents next time round. Hope this helps, oh great site Moveme. Thanks, helped me alot.
